Warschauer straße, berlin 2022
Supported by Trias Foundadtion
The project „Unseal the city“ is a public performance that took place on a parking lot next to Warschauer Straße in Berlin, Friedrichshain. This parking lot area was culturally occupied by the SEV and ROH Kollektiv in the summer of 2021. In addition to music events, theater shows and film screenings, artworks and performances were creted. The unsealing project consists of two parts. The first one is a performance in which an 8 m2 area was broken up and unsealed with the help of a compressed air bagger. This action took place with an audience was accompanied by DJ Set in order to reach the largest possible visitors . The second part are three information banners that frame the unsealed area and a tree planting session. These explain the importance of the action and the problem. A renaturation of the area contributes to an active strengthening of the city nature. In its current form, the city and nature are a pair of opposites. The city of the future urgently needs to overcome this legacy in order to become the engine for a circular society. For this to succeed, cities of the future should fundamentally transform their relationship with nature. The city of the future is made not only for people, but also for flora and fauna. It is a question of creating urban ecosystem in which a common (super)habitat is created for all species.
